Affirmations
And
Sending Love
to your Day upon
waking……
After the long cold and harsh winter months we have just experienced, many people I spoke with shared how they felt “lethargic” unable to greet each new Day with Love, Hope and good Expectations. It took every bit of strength of will to keep positive some days. As one person so aptly described what I myself was experiencing “I don’t have that spark that makes me glow with Love and Hope for perfect outcomes. I feel stuck and it just doesn’t feel like me!” It felt good to know I was not the only one out there feeling the effects of a long unforgiving winter. As I look back, it really prepared me for the joy I felt when the first warm day descended upon the earth around me. My bones and my soul rejoiced. Even though I am a crab by my astrological sign, I am also a horse in the Chinese astrological calendar and as a horse person I love the wide open spaces and warm grass beneath my feet.
What those months taught me when I felt somewhat lethargic during that cold spell was to use that time wisely in so many ways. Instead of moaning about the weather I blessed each day I awoke by sending Love out to pave the way for the perfect outcome. I also sent love to bless all the people whose lives I would meet and interact with during each day. That became the key to my flowing smoothly and joyfully through some depressing days in April and a few in May when warm weather seemed a distant memory.
I learned a lot during those two months. Who said “we are never too old to learn,” spoke a truth that resonates with me totally. I spent a great deal of that time recovering my sense of wonder and strength and compassion and most of all my sense of deep connection to my heart’s dreams and goals. By sending love to me and my day and everyone I would meet, it opened my heart to revisiting one of my very favorite books, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. I found myself experiencing a state of being I had not experienced in a very long time, namely; no push, no rush, no planning, just coasting along and enjoying each day’s gifts and surprises as they unfolded. I must admit – it felt good! For anyone who hasn’t read this wonderful book, The Artist Way is filled with the most affirming and powerful affirmations one could hope to find in any one book. In addition to the following exercise, you may want to choose an affirmation that speaks to you and repeat it several times during your day.
Here is the exercise I had practiced over the years in its various shortened forms and decided to try it in its entirety, and I am so glad that I did.
“On awakening, speak loving, self-directed blessings aloud and it will awaken the reservoir of tenderness and compassion in your soul. Pour forth loving thoughts and expectations towards yourself and the new day just dawning. Then prepare to meet the Day by seeing your self surrounded with a brilliant warm, loving protective light. Expand that light to include your loved ones and everyone you meet, including people in your workplace, and the traffic on the roads you travel; in short everyone you meet. If an ambulance goes by during the day, send warm loving, healing, light to the person in that ambulance.
Before getting out of bed to start your day set an intention for your Day, write it in your Journal along with an appropriate affirmation to support your intention and you are ready to greet your day knowing it will be a blessed, happy and fulfilling day.”
Sending love ahead to everyone you will meet and everything you will be doing will ensure that your day is held loving together with a ribbon of grace. If someone is rude or nasty to you, send them love and forgiveness. It is said that what we send out we receive back a hundred fold.
I would love to have you share any rituals you find helpful and I look forward to hearing from you.
Happy days!
Namaste,
Sharon
